Leadership and Teamwork Tasks

We have over two hundred different games and exercises and case studies (we call them all "tasks") in our library. We have created them all ourselves and are frequently asked if they are for sale or hire. So we have started production of the ones in most demand and will be adding to the catalogue regularly.

We aim to deliver training relevant to people working "in a 21st century workplace" and our tasks follow that discipline. They all require relevant business skills AND most of them are objectively measurable in terms of PROFIT - requiring teams to practice resource, time and budget management.

Visit this page on a regular basis over the coming months to view the new additions.

The "I SPY" trilogy of Leadership or Teamwork Tasks

the I SPY trilogy

Three tasks - "THE BALLOONPOLE", "THE MINEFIELD" and "THE GREAT ESCAPE" - with a common theme of Secret Agents operating behind enemy lines. Like most Impetus tasks they are objectively measurable in terms of PROFIT. Teams must pay for (on credit) the resources they use (and they have a choice) and are rewarded in a variety of ways. Costs are then deducted from this gross profit for a net result. Thus, though each task can stand alone, if they are played in sequence the earnings from each can be carried forward for there to be a winner at the end of a challenging, but fun, one day event.

All tasks have outdoor elements requiring as a minimum a small area like a hotel lawn and are ideal for people of all ages and levels of physical ability to enjoy, because "brain is much important then brawn". They are also flexible in application, so trainers can personalise their delivery to both the group and the resources of the venue / location. Ideal numbers are 4 to 8 people per team.

The three tasks are priced individually (see below) but can be bought as a trilogy for £500 - a saving of £150. To place an order please call Rick Whitehead on 0151 625 4800 or email him. We send an invoice WITH the delivery, not before, so clients can examine to their satisfaction before payment.

THE BALLOONPOLE - £200 - 2 hours - 1 to 4 teams

Analysis, debating, decision-making, allocation of roles, negotiating (2 or more teams) response to pressure and crises - and above all, TEAMWORKING.

The objective is to build a flagpole as high as possible with as many inflated balloons flying from the top as possible. There are packages of rope and different lengths and thickness of wooden poles which are presented as lots for sale - AT AUCTION (or, if only one team, items can be priced individually)

During the allocated planning time teams can negotiate before and/or after the auction, organise their teams and finalise detailed construction plans, ready for the whistle. Then all teams start together, against the stopwatch, to build their balloonpole to signal to the waiting submarine!

The pack contains: detailed trainer instructions, including methods of personalising the task to the profile of group; task briefs IN 2 FORMS (one for Leaders and one for a Team) on disc in .doc format so trainers can edit / personalise them as necessary; enough kit for four teams to participate.

As a special offer FOR A LIMITED PERIOD two copies of the "Experiential Teamworking Personality Profiling" book (see above) and TWELVE Personality Types Reference Cards are included in the pack.

THE MINEFIELD - £200 - 2 hours - 1 to 4 teams

Logic problem solving, decision-making, allocation of roles, working under pressure, improvisation and creativity with materials and TEAMWORKING.

The objective is for the team to escape (from their prisoner of war camp!) through a minefield (ropes laid to make 50 (10 x 5) metre squares) as quickly as possible. Teams are issued with logic clues as to where mines are laid and can "torture" a guard for more clues - or pay for them. During the allocated planning time teams must also plan how to remove and carry a radioactive "mastermine" and improvise a stretcher for a wounded comrade and plan how to escort 1 to 3 (depending on number in team) "blind" colleagues through the minefield. Teams then proceed against the stopwatch.

The pack contains: detailed trainer instructions, including methods of personalising the task to the profile of group; task briefs IN 2 FORMS (one for Leaders and one for a Team) on disc in .doc format so trainers can edit / personalise them as necessary; one minefield (ropes and pegs) and enough other kit for four teams to participate.

As a special offer FOR A LIMITED PERIOD two copies of the "Experiential Teamworking Personality Profiling" book (see above) and TWELVE Personality Types Reference Cards are included in the pack.

THE GREAT ESCAPE - £250 - 3 to 5 hours - 1 to 4 teams

Analysis, decision-making, allocation of roles, contingency planning, communications, training, improvisation and creativity and TEAMWORKING.

The objective is for the team to assemble a 500 PIECE JIGSAW PUZZLE (the illustration is of an enemy defence establishment!) and then transport it intact ideally (depending on venue) across a stretch of water (eg a hotel pool) on an improvised mini-raft or to a specific location, like the top of a hill. Teams don't however receive their puzzle initially because it is split into 20 sections which (at trainer's discretion) can be "earned" (see below) in a variety of ways. All 500 pieces in the puzzle have a number written on the back and teams receive a plan of where each of the 20 sections goes and where each individual piece fits within its section.

A recommended option for facilitators is to have TWO teams per puzzle - allocated 10 of the 20 sections each. Thus the teams operate independently to assemble their half and then must co-operate to complete and transport the entire puzzle.

The pack contains: TWO JIGSAW PUZZLES - with all 500 pieces numbered and with each of the 20 sections packed in a numbered small box; the 20 boxes are then packed in a large box with 6 laminated copies of the picture with the detailed plan on the reverse; detailed trainer instructions, including alternative ways teams have to "earn" their sections of puzzle (searching "treasure hunt style", things to do, like a quiz, or take photographs, etc); task briefs IN 2 FORMS (one for Leaders and one for a Team) on disc in .doc format so trainers can edit / personalise them as necessary.

As a special offer FOR A LIMITED PERIOD two copies of the "Experiential Teamworking Personality Profiling" book (see above) and TWELVE Personality Types Reference Cards are included in the pack.
